Why all politicians are liars and manipulators

answer: they have to be, otherwise your dumb ass wont vote for them.

it has long been said that power corrupts, and that anyone in power for too long will become corrupt, selfish, greedy, and evil, and will tell any lie or manipulate in any way to hold on to that power.

it has also been said that the only people who want power are already corrupt. that the job filters for the worst people out there.

both of these claims are partially true, and they work together to make sure that almost every world leader, democratic or not, is or eventually becomes a vile, corrupt, lying shitbag who will fuck over the lives of any number of people in order to keep their status.

i do not think it’s true, however, that normal, good, caring empathetic people don’t want the job. they just can’t ever get you to vote for them.

this is because expert liars and manipulators are better at appearing to be genuine and good people than actual genuine and good people are.

genuine and good people are just… normal people, and if your dumb ass doesn’t like how they laugh, or how they look, or you don’t want to ‘have a beer with them’, then you’re not going to vote for them, regardless of their policies or track record.

this is why it continues to be the case that all politicians are mirroring shapeshifters who’s primary skill is to make literally everyone like them and think that they agree with them.

what’s the solution? vote for the ugliest candidate.
